A specialist in the area of tax law, Kevin’s expertise, both advisory and advocacy, spans income tax, capital gains tax, value-added tax, estate duty and customs duty.
As well as advising on South African tax laws, he advises on all international and cross-border tax issues. He has also advised on the tax laws of many foreign jurisdictions including Cyprus, Guernsey, Gibraltar, Isle of Man, Jersey, Hong Kong, Luxemborg, Malta, Mauritius, Singapore and the United Kingdom.
Kevin advises and acts for corporate groups, private equity and hedge fund managers, banks, pension fund trustees, family-offices, mining companies, entrepreneurs and their professional advisers, as well as the South African Revenue Service.
He has written extensively on various aspects of tax law and is a regular contributor to The Taxpayer and Tax Planning (Corporate & Personal) and other law journals and publications.
Besides tax law, Kevin undertakes a wide variety of both advisory and litigation work in the areas of administrative law, contract law, company law, trust law and pension law.
Prior to joining the Bar, Kevin practised as a tax lawyer at Arthur Andersen in Cape Town and as a UK tax solicitor at CMS Cameron McKenna and SJ Berwin in London. He was also the commercial projects lead for Microgaming Software Systems on the Isle of Man. He holds the degrees of BSocSc (Economics) and LLB from the University of Cape Town, LLM (Tax) from the University of South Africa and MBA (cum laude) from the Cass Business School, City University of London.
