Euphodia K Tsatsi SC

Euphodia, also known as “Liza”, was admitted as an Advocate of the High Court of South Africa on 1 April 1998 and completed her pupillage at the Johannesburg Society of Advocates in the same year.  She was called to the Bar on 4 August 1998, emigrated to Canada in 2005, where she obtained a Canadian professional legal qualification from the University of Ottawa (Ontario), broadening her international legal experience, and resigned from the Bar on 1 March 2006. On her return to the Bar, her seniority was dated from 2003. She attained Senior Counsel (Silk) status on 10 March 2018. 

She has acted as a Judge of the High Court in the Free State, Gauteng (Johannesburg and Pretoria), and North West Divisions. 

Liza has held numerous leadership positions within the legal profession. She served on the Bar Councils of both the Johannesburg and Limpopo Societies of Advocates (LSA), served as a Vice Chairperson of the LSA.  She was Secretary-General and subsequently Chairperson of Advocates for Transformation (AFT), Johannesburg Branch, between 2013 and 2015. She is the former Deputy Chairperson of the Limpopo Provincial Legal Practice Council and served as a member of the UNISA Council from 2016 to 2020.

Prior to joining the Bar, Liza worked as a social worker, and she ran her own businesses.  She was also a lecturer at the then University of Boputhatswana (now North West University). She was appointed as a legal researcher at the University of South Africa (UNISA) in 1996.  In 2002, she was appointed South Africa’s first Court Services Manager, overseeing more than 13 courts in the Johannesburg region and managing approximately 700 staff members. As part of this role, she undertook a benchmarking study of court systems in the United States.

Liza is also an author and a community advocate who has served various non-profit organisations and charitable initiatives.  

Her academic qualifications include an LLM,  LLB and  Bachelor of Business Administration (BBA) from UNISA. She has a BA Honours degree from the University of the Free State, a BA in Social Work from the University of Limpopo, and an Advanced Diploma in Social Work from North-West University. She has also completed training in arbitration and mediation.
