Bruce W Burman SC
Bruce attended and graduated from the University of Stellenbosch with the degrees B.A (Law) and LLB in 1971. He was employed both during University and shortly thereafter in the Magistrate’s Court Clerks office and as a prosecutor.
After doing articles he was admitted as an attorney, notary and conveyancer in 1974. He was admitted as an advocate on 20 May 1974 and was admitted to practice at the Johannesburg Bar on 4 June 1974.
He joined the Island Group in 1976. He was the assistant secretary and secretary of the General Council of the Bar of South Africa from 1975 to 1984. He was appointed as a senior counsel on 1 September 1989.
He has been admitted ad hoc in Namibia, Swaziland, Botswana and Zimbabwe. He has acted as a Judge of the High Court on various occasions during the period October 1991 to September 2015.
Bruce practises in general commercial law and litigation, construction and engineering law, insurance law and insurance liability, administrative law and medical negligence.
