Barry Edwards

Barry Edwards became a member of the Johannesburg Society of Advocates in 2013 after completing pupillage under the mentorship of Adv. Gregory Amm SC.

Prior to his admission as an advocate, Edwards completed BComm (Legal Studies and Economics) and LLB degrees at Rhodes University and was admitted as an attorney. 

For a period in excess of 10 years, Edwards has enjoyed a broad practice – appearing in a number of courts and fora both as sole counsel and together with senior counsel. Edwards appears mostly in matters concerning administrative and constitutional law in the High Court, and in commercial matters both in the High Court and in arbitration proceedings. 

Edwards is a domestic arbitration panel member of the Arbitration Foundation of Southern Africa (AFSA), has experience as a commercial mediator, and has an interest in international commercial dispute resolution. In 2023, he completed a Postgraduate Diploma in Laws (International Dispute Resolution) at the University of London, and is reading towards a Masters in Laws (Internation Dispute Resolution) part-time at the same institution.
